2026 - Holding Ground Lightly

Master exhibition images coming in January 2027

#MyColouredDust

My Coloured Dust was a record of a daily painting practice undertaken as part of the 100 Days Project. Over one hundred days, I created a small abstract painting each day, sharing the evolving series online and allowing the accumulation of images to become a visual diary of attention, memory, and place.

Working within the constraints of a small format and a routine encouraged a process of observation rather than representation. Colour, gesture, texture, and material became ways of responding to the environments I inhabit. Individually, each painting captures a moment; together, they form a chronology of looking, noticing, and returning.

This project sits alongside my Master's research, which investigates how abstraction and craft-based approaches can generate new understandings of place. As a Pākehā woman living in Aotearoa, I am interested in the uncertainties and complexities of belonging, and in how place might be approached through embodied, material processes rather than fixed descriptions. The paintings in My Coloured Dust do not attempt to depict specific locations. Instead, they gather traces, sensations, and fragments of experience, creating a cumulative record of being in relationship with place over time.

Installed sequentially, the works invited viewers to move through the corridor as they might move through a landscape or a memory, encountering subtle shifts, repetitions, and moments of change along the way.

The project started on February 22nd and finished on June 1st 2026
