Natalie Blackwood

My work explores our connection to home, memory and place through embroidery, weaving and oil painting.

I'm interested in the quiet ways ordinary places become meaningful over time. The paths we walk every day, the places we return to again and again, all become woven into who we are. Through slow, repetitive processes of stitching and making, I explore these relationships and invite others to reflect on their own.

Based in Napier, New Zealand, I create original artworks, exhibitions and commissioned pieces that celebrate the places we hold close. Alongside my studio practice, I'm currently completing a Master of Professional Creative Practice, where my research is helping me better understand making as a way of exploring and deepening our relationship with place.

Whether you're here to discover my artwork, learn more about my research, or commission a piece about a place that matters to you, welcome.

Current Practice

My current work continues to explore the relationship between making and place through textiles, abstraction and material experimentation.

Each project builds on the last, allowing ideas to develop slowly through observation, repetition and reflection.
