An Ode to the Coast

Collection building is slow

Writing a poem as a part of my collection building process makes so much sense to me. However, this is the first time I’ve tried writing a poem so I can’t decide if this is actually finished.

Embroidery and paint by ngaio blackwood

Sweet salt

Brown and blue hue soaring in the sky
A rock lights up, to my shattered mind
Always walking alone whilst in company
Keeping to the path when amongst the cloudy sea.
There is comfort in the warmth of the sun
Sandy coves and cold breath remain as one
Numb toes and freckles shimmering undone
Rough layers discard us as sienna waves, hey
Beaches surround the feathered mounds
Decay leads you forward a sweet send-off salt
air fills them up but you don't have to listen
Stay still and dry for they will pass you by

Inspiration

I wrote my poem ‘Sweet Salt’ to remember that I need to get in my studio, I need to paint this coastal collection. I can hear the pigment in the other room calling. just another few weeks and I have a date set to finally get some painting done. it's been so long. Stitching has taken over. I miss my brushes and mess.

This is my first time writing a poem and I found it so hard to get going but once I got in the zone I really enjoyed it. I think I'll write some more.

Writing poetry is like art with words.

Let me know if you think it’s finished over on my insta post —> Sweet Salt poem
