Artist Statement:

“I’m interested in the current and past realities we associate with the things we live with. I create arrangements combining found botanicals, textiles, and objects into island-like compositions, exploring the relationships between items and the memories they hold.”

“I make paintings, textile art and jewellery using the compositions I create from found objects. Embracing painterly impasto oils, semi-abstraction and interesting colour relationships, I indulge in a love affair with the beautiful ordinary stuff surrounding us.”

Natalie Blackwood is an artist based in Napier. Most recently, her focus has been on oil paintings, but she is also well-known as a textile artist/jeweller and website designer.

Having completed her BFA (Hons) in painting in 2007, Natalie has consistently exhibited her work. Her canvases tell stories of resilience and truth, showcasing the beauty and strength that can be curated from the clutter of everyday life.
